Youth have been visiting some of the townships in Perth County as part of a national tour to remove misconceptions about Islam in rural areas across Canada.
Youth involved with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association visited Atwood, Mitchell and Seaforth this past Sunday, as part of the Explore Islam Tour.
They held campaign signs, distributed flyers, and had meaningful conversations with local residents in an effort to learn more about the rural perspective -- and share their own perspective as well.
Jari Qudrat, national outreach director of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, told StratfordToday that the Explore Islam Tour his organization is undertaking is to show people “the true and peaceful teachings of this beautiful religion.”
“The goals of the initiative are very simple,” Qudrat wrote in an emailed statement. “Which is to connect with Canadians and educate them about the religion of Islam and help remove any misunderstandings that may exist about the faith.
“In addition it is to connect with Canadians and learn about what matters most to them so that we can help offer our support in any way possible.”
The tour is set to visit over 1,000 towns and cities in Canada, according to its website.
