Is your home causing your life to be a mess? If you're sitting there nodding and looking at a big pile of crap then a new television show wants to hear from you.
“The concept behind Life is Messy is how many times have you heard the expression a messy house equals a messy life and vice versa,” said casting director Candace Cobbing. “The series hopes that a transformative design can solve both for home owners and renters.”
The show will be hosted by Kourtney Wilson and Kenny Brian, who co-hosted the show Making It Home with Kourtney and Kenny. While that show focued on renovations, this one has a slightly different approach.
“Kourtney is the real estate agent and home organizational guru, while Kenny brings the construction knowledge to the show,” said Cobbing. “The hope is that they can work with families who are seeing a strain caused by their messy home by creating design solutions.”
Life is Messy is casting right now in southwestern Ontario, looking for participants in Stratford, Kitchener and the Perth County area. Cobbing said that applications have already started rolling in from the region.
“What we are looking for first and foremost is diversity, we want all family types and backgrounds, and not just human diversity but also property diversity, whether that's homes, apartments, owners, or renters,” said Cobbing. “The point is to show that everyone is different, and each situation is unique. You could have just undergone some sort of big change in your life, or maybe your home doesn’t have enough storage space, we want to hear it all. Everyone has a story to share that is relatable, and we all have a mess, even the people who look picture perfect on social media.”
She added that each and every application will be reviewed, so it's important to apply. Filming will start in 2025, and the eight episode season will preview on the new home network. In terms of applying there are a number of criteria including: being 18 or older, own or rent your home in southwestern Ontario, be willing to be out of your home for up to two weeks, be prepared to start filming in 2025, and make yourself available for about five days of shooting. The show also asks everyone to have a minimum budget of $2,000 to contribute towards your home makeover.
“We will determine the cost when we do the initial casting process, by looking at the scale of the project,” said Cobbing. “Sometimes the solution is quick and easy, while other times it's a bit more in depth but that will all be done during the casting process so there aren't any surprises. Our goal at the show is to keep the costs as low as possible.”
