A number of police cruisers were outside Stratford District Secondary School Monday morning.

Stratford Police Service have a male in custody after they were called to Stratford District Secondary School (SDSS) on Monday to investigate a potential weapons call.

Police have confirmed that the suspect is a student at the school. He was located in the school and arrested shortly after.

The public high school was on lockdown, which has since been lifted. No injuries were reported, per the SPS Twitter account.

SPS tweeted earlier this morning to stay clear of the high school because of an active lockdown in place as they investigated the potential weapons call.

Students surrounding the school during the lockdown were visibly shaken. Reports on what exactly occurred varied but many said that they felt unsafe.

"I'm just glad we're outside," said one student who asked not to be named.

St. Michael Catholic Secondary School was also locked down. Both schools had the lockdowns lifted at around 12:30 p.m. Monday.

In a statement, the Avon Maitland District School Board said, "we recognize that this may create anxiety for some students and we are ensuring that students are properly supported. We are also continuing to inform families of the situation."

StratfordToday will update this story when more information become available.
