Although 25-35mm of rain fell across the watershed area on Wednesday, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) doesn't anticipate major flooding.

The anticipation is based on a number of factors, including the current weather outlook and streamflow forecasts.

Although major flooding isn't anticipated, the UTRCA issued a public reminder this morning to exercise extreme caution and stay away from rivers, streams, ponds and flood control reservoirs following the recent rain.

Banks next to rivers and creeks are very slippery and combining that with cold, fast-moving water, serious hazards are a possibility. Standing water can also present dangers.

Driving through flooded roadways is also not advisable and it's not safe to take shelter along riverbanks or in low lying areas that are prone to flooding.

The UTRCA’s flood control reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock Conservation Areas are being operated to reduce downstream flooding. UTRCA officials are monitoring the situation and will report on any changing conditions.
