The St. Marys Community Players have announced that auditions are coming up for their new production of Over the River and Through the Woods.
“The show is about two sets of grandparents and their only grandson who is still close to them,” said Jake Petrie, a board member and chair of the script reading committee. “The grandson is torn between staying with his family and moving across the country for a new job. Of course shenanigans ensue, as the grandparents try very hard to get him to stay.”
Auditions for the production are coming up January 10-12, with the producer setting up times.
“We will be doing group auditions,” said Petrie. “Our director, Phyllis Layton, thought they would be less intimidating, and more like a workshop kind of vibe. You are there to have fun and learn how to work with other people.”
Everyone who is interested in auditioning is asked to prepare a 1-2 minute monologue, poem or story. The show is also still looking for a stage manager.
“Everyone I have handed the script to, even if they don’t know the show, the feedback has been positive,” said Petrie. “It’s a great show with great parts, it's kind of an ensemble piece. Obviously there is a main character in Nick, but all the parts are great. I think if people are looking to get involved this is a good show to start with.
Auditions will be taking place on Friday, Jan 10 from 7-9 p.m; 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3 p.m on January 11; 1-3 p.m. on January 12. Auditions will be held at St. Marys Presbyterian Church (147 Widder St E). Everyone is asked to use the side entrance.
The show is scheduled to run April 24-May 10.
