DESTINATION STRATFORD

In a collective goal to divert food waste from landfills, Destination Stratford partnered with Downtown Stratford BIA and the City of Stratford Public Works Department to bring intentional waste removal to public spaces.
“The residential, commercial and industrial Green Bin program in Stratford has been amazingly successful, and we wanted to build on that momentum for our Stratford Al Fresco public spaces. There are thousands of Al Fresco patrons each year that previously had no means to responsibly dispose of their food waste. Expanding the program to include Al Fresco areas is a great example of sustainable destination development and we look forward to more of these impactful collaborative projects.” Zac Gribble, Executive Director, Destination Stratford.
"The organics (green) bin program ensures these materials are properly disposed of and undergo composting, transforming them into nutrient-rich compost. This compost can then be used to enrich soil, promote plant growth, and reduce the need for chemical fertilizers. It is important that the organic waste of the tens of thousands of visitors that come to our beautiful city is properly handled." The four green bins located in Market Square will be picked up twice per week. The organizations plan to expand the green bin service to more Al Fresco areas, including Tom Patterson Island.
