Gordon Lightfoot tribute planned at Stratford Perth Museum

A busy spring and summer is planned for the museum. On Saturday, an Indigenous art and craft market features local artists, cultural wares and food. The event is free

A Gordon Lightfoot tribute show is being staged at the Stratford Perth Museum, in honour of the Canadian icon’s recent passing

On July 9 at 7 p.m. John Stinson takes the stage with the classic Lightfoot Live band, including Steve Eyers – Lightfoot’s nephew – on bass guitar.

Stinson is an Ontario-based musician known for his resemblance to Lightfoot’s original studio recordings.

Tickets are available only at the Stratford Perth Museum’s website.

Upcoming Events at the Museum

The Lightfoot show isn’t the only event taking place at the Stratford Perth Museum. A host of events are scheduled this spring and summer.

On Saturday, an Indigenous Art and Craft Market is at the museum. Local artists are there featuring cultural wares and food. The event is free for vendors and for attendees.

On May 13, Together on this Land makes its return. Indigenous educator Patsy-Anne Day of Oneida Nations will tell the story of Sky Woman, and two nature walks will take place: an exploration of the museum’s watershed with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority and an adventure to learn the early history of Perth County.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children (children under three are free), or $20 for families.

Three Busy Hands workshops are planned. On May 20, an introduction to macrame plant hangers is scheduled, on June 3, a leatherworking 101 is scheduled, and on July 8 an illuminated manuscripts 101 is scheduled.

All materials are provided with the fee for the workshops: $50 for the macrame workshop, $60 for the leatherworking 101, and $20 for the illuminated manuscript.

On June 23, a Star Party hosted by the Stratford Astronomy Group will have attendees trading sunglasses for nightshades. Supplies for observing the night sky will be provided and a short presentation on telescopes will be given by Dr. Michael Burns. It is $12 per person, which includes the program, admission to the museum, and refreshments.

Like the Lightfoot show, tickets and more information are available at the Stratford Perth Museum’s website.
