Jon Allen is a Senior Fellow at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy (University of Toronto) and a Distinguished Fellow of the Canada International Council. He is the Chair of Project Rozana Canada.

Jon Allen, a former Canadian ambassador to Israel, will shed light on the current situation in Israel and Gaza at a lecture at Avondale Church in Stratford.

A group of concerned Stratford citizens invited Allen, who will offer his perspective on the history of the conflict and the existing situation, according to a media release from organizers. He will also share his views on how peace might be attained in the region.

A question-and-answer period will follow the address, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

“We felt that it was important that people have a deeper understanding of the evolving  situation in Israel and Gaza,“ said Wendy McNaughton, an event organizer.

“It is so difficult to watch events unfold at a distance and to wonder if peace can ever be achieved.”

Allen is the Chair of Project Rozana Canada, a not-for profit building bridges between Palestinians and Israelis, via the health sector. He is a  distinguished former diplomat with postings in Mexico City, New Delhi, and  Washington.

Allan was appointed as Canada’s Ambassador to Israel (2006-2010) and Ambassador to Spain (2012-2016). Allen is currently a Senior Fellow, Munk School of Global Affairs and Policy (University of Toronto), and a Distinguished Fellow of the Canadian International Council.

This group and the event are not aligned with any specific local or national organization or interest group, organizers said.

Admission is free but donations will be accepted for Project Rozana Canada.
