Avondale United Church invites you to: “Raising Resilient Children and Youth: It Takes A Village”; an information night for parents and caregivers of children and youth. This free information night will be held on Wednesday, February 26 2025, from 7-9PM. The focus of the evening will be to educate parents and caregivers on the nine things every child needs according to Dr. Michael Ungar, PHD, which includes structure, consequences, parent and child connections, lots of relationships, a powerful identity, a sense of control, a sense of belonging, fair and just treatment, and physical, as well as psychological safety.

Local mental health professionals, and service providers will be leading the evening, balancing their professional expertise and experience with the lived experiences of parents, educators, and caregivers who have raised, and/or been a part of raising resilient children and youth. Audience members will have a chance to hear from, and interact with presenters, by participating in four breakout sessions, each featuring professional and parental facilitators and each focusing on some of Ungar’s nine things.

Avondale United Church is thrilled to be holding space for this educational event, and to once again be partnering with local mental health services, including The Canadian Mental Health Association Huron Perth–, and The Huron Perth Centre for Children and Youth.

“Dr. Ungar reminds us that nobody can be resilient on their own,” says Dana Bozzato, CEO of Huron Perth Centre For Children and Youth. “He underlines the fact that personal resilience is not only about what we do ourselves but it is strongly connected to the resources around us that can support us when we are under stress...the supports in our natural environment...this moves us from blaming people for their downfalls and focusing more on how to strengthen the environment around people. It truly takes a village.”

Please RSVP to: [email protected] by Wednesday, February 19 2025, to confirm your attendance.
