Building on the success from last year’s pilot project, Destination Stratford is launching the 2024/25 Winter Music Pop-Up Program providing funding opportunities for local businesses and organizations to create their own winter music experiences.
The Stratford Winter Music Pop-Up Program was initiated in 2023 to align with the Lights On Stratford Winter Festival of Lights, and is now expanding by encouraging, supporting and funding additional musical cultural events around the city.
Destination Stratford is challenging those interested in applying to be bold, creative and think outside of the box to bring engaging music performances to visitors and community members during the months of December through March.
Ryan O’Donnell from Mercer Kitchen | Beer Hall shared this about their 2023 funding: “As recipients of the winter music pop up fund in the winter of 2024, Mercer was very excited to be able to add live music to our venue. We created two themed nights with specialized food offerings to create an exceptional vibe in the restaurant. Bringing together crowds of Stratford locals and visitors alike, all enjoying energetic local talent and fantastic food, was a winning combination. We love a party, and this grant program helped us throw some good ones!”
This year, the Stratford Winter Music Pop-Up Program will stretch beyond the Lights On Stratford festival and runs from December 1 until March 31. Businesses and organizations can apply for funding of $250, $500 or $1,000 each for their music experience.
“Stratford has a burgeoning music scene that is readily apparent in the summer months,” says Zac Gribble, Executive Director of Destination Stratford and Festival Director of Lights On Stratford. “This program is intended to help lift and support the local music scene to be vibrant year-round.”
Megan Jones from The Starlight shared their positive experience from the 2023 funding support. The Music Pop-Up Fund allowed us at The Starlight to add an additional music evening to our winter programming to align with the opening of Lights On Stratford. As a small venue that focuses on showcasing local musicians this funding allowed us to support a local musician, build our reputation as a musical venue in Stratford and provide our patrons with an exciting evening of music. Supporting live music and live music venues in Stratford is a great way to keep the arts alive in this vibrant city while supporting local businesses to do so.”
