Exterior renovations to the boathouse washrooms, which have undergone a significant upgrade, are almost complete.

The City of Stratford said most of the construction has all but wrapped up and there is some landscaping still to go, but the washrooms near the Avon River were open on Thursday.

The washrooms were open to the public in March after most of the construction was completed.

The City announced earlier this month a short service disruption while work on the gravel surface and entrance ramp was completed.

The washrooms are in a separate part of a building that also houses the Avon boathouse business.

The overall project included modernization, including new stainless steel toilets. The project includes more available bathrooms, something area businesses said was needed in the downtown core.

The facility will be open year-round. The project was part of an ongoing focus for Destination Stratford, which develops and promotes tourism in the city, for community improvement, and regenerative projects.

Other fixtures near the bathrooms include a water bottle refilling station.

The project was funded with FedDev funding of $293,500 and $198,925 from the City of Stratford's tax stabilization reserve.

The City also announced that the Ann Hathaway splash pad, with available washrooms, is opening on Friday. It is open everyday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
