Rotary Club of Stratford is continuing 100th anniversary celebrations with a community event at Stratford city hall on Thursday.

Following a barbecue for Rotarians at city hall, community members can join in celebrations with free cupcakes.

There are 500 cupcakes and organizers hope they are gone after the event.

"We encourage members of the community to come and share in the celebration, Ken Nesbitt, club president, told StratfordToday.

The City of Stratford are hosting. Stratford Mayor Dan Mathieson said during his time on city council, he has seen first-hand the great work that Rotary does, within Stratford and beyond.

"I’m happy we can celebrate with them as a community," the mayor said.

A barbecue portion, for Rotary Club members only, will take place at 11:30 a.m.

The public portion starts at 1 p.m.

The Rotary Club of Stratford hosted their 100th anniversary gala in May with a few hundred people in attendance. They also have launched a 100th anniversary book, with Rotary history, written by Dean Robinson.

The club raised $14,000 at the gala and they have raised $55,000 overall so far this year.

Still to come are a golf tournament in July at Stratford Country Club, the Dragon Boat Festival in September and a car rally in October. Also in October is the popular Scotch Mist fundraiser, which includes dinner, fellowship and samplings of Scotch, of course. A Christmas Craft show will take place later in the year.

"We are all systems go. Things are opening up, which we are very pleased to see," said Nesbitt.
