All the fun of a disco party, sans thumping speakers

Building off success over the winter at Lights on Stratford, silent discos are being held at different locations around the city, including Thursday night at Stratford Perth Museum

It's quite the sight to see people dancing around, thoroughly enjoying music, with no booming speakers anywhere to be found.

Destination Stratford Executive Director Zac Gribble said the popularity of silent discos continues to increase, and the organization has started offering them more, in spots around the community, after a successful addition in the winter months to Lights on Stratford.

"We were thrilled with the results we experienced there," Gribble said of the winter-time silent discos.

The final silent disco of Lights On Stratford was held indoors, at the Destination Stratford office in the downtown core, due to weather, and it was a big hit, he said.

"It really brought that entire space to life."

The inclusion at the winter festival went so well, Gribble said, that Destination Stratford has purchased equipment.

Headphones are provided for each guest and they can choose between duelling DJs, if the event has more than one DJ, Gribble said. Headphones light up to the colour of a corresponding DJ, so everyone can see who others are listening to, and who is drawing the most fans.

It's all in good fun and adds to the atmosphere, Gribble said.

The first foray into community silent discos is underway - at Stratford Public Library earlier this week and on Thursday, at Stratford Perth Museum.

Gribble said the organization works with local DJs, who are "thrilled to be taking part."

Local DJs Mista D and DJ Wigs are scheduled for Thursday's event, which runs from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

There is free admission and headsets are limited.

New locations could be added in the future, Gribble said.
