StratfordToday received the following letter to the editor from reader Bob Snider.
My letter is prompted by my many walks around Lake Victoria or the Avon River. After the much touted Marching of the Swans in early spring, I enjoyed watching them both in the water and on the banks of the Avon. I knew their numbers were reduced this year due to bird flu, but as the summer went by, I saw fewer swans each month until in late August and later, when they completely disappeared.
What happened to these Stratford icons that locals, and especially tourists, love to see. Swans and Stratford are forever linked. The swans are almost as important to our city as our wonderful theatres are. They are a magical draw to our own Stratford upon Avon.
The city needs to bring back swans not only for their elegance for locals to enjoy, but also for their huge draw to tourism which helps our local economy so much.
