Straford Police were called in for a mental wellness check Thursday morning, assisting a local resident after a friend contacted police with concerns over their wellbeing.

Const. Darren Fischer said there was no disturbance reported despite what was being said on social media, and that the individual in question was struggling with their mental health. A concerned friend alerted police, requesting they check on the individual whom police would not identify.

"The information we initially received was that this person was in possession of a gun, but that wasn't the case," he said. "That was a miscommunication. When officers attended the scene, the individual did admit he was struggling with his mental well being and accepted our offer to get him help."

Police vehicles were seen blocking off a portion of Ontario Street near Parkview Drive around 10:30 a.m., but the call ended without incident.
