E-bike driver suffers serious, non-life-threatening injuries after serious crash

Police say the driver of the pickup truck was impaired by cannabis

On Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. the Stratford Police Service attended a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Downie Street and West Street/East Gore Street in the City of Stratford, involving a red Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck and an e-bicycle.

The driver of the pick-up truck was travelling north on Downie Street at the intersection of West Gore Street when the e-bike driver drove east across Downie Street into the path of the pick-up truck. The driver of the pick-up truck had the right of way.

The driver of the pick-up was identified as a 39-year-old female resident of Stratford. The driver of the e-bike was identified as a 56-year-old male resident of Stratford.

The driver of the e-bike was initially transported to Stratford General Hospital. He was later transported to London Health Sciences Centre by air ambulance with serious non-life-threatening injuries.

Interactions with the driver of the pick-up truck indicated that she was impaired by cannabis. She was arrested and transported to Stratford Police Headquarters where a Drug Recognition Expert Evaluation was completed. The driver failed the examination and was subsequently charged with Impaired Operation -Drug. She was later released on an Undertaking. Approximately 14 grams of cannabis was also seized from the driver. She was provided with a Part 3 Summons for Have Care and Control of a Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available.

Investigation into this matter continues and further charges are pending.
