April 9, 1946 - January 4, 2025
Ilonka Helen Tanyi passed away peacefully at the age of 78, in her home on January 4, 2025 with family by her side.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters Helen and Rose (Werner), grandchildren Ady and Kevin and siblings Magdolna, Julia and Bill as well as many extended family members. She was predeceased by her former husband Balazs, her siblings Alfred, Moncsi, Anna and Vince as well as her childhood friend Maria.
Helen left Hungary with her family in 1956 when she was 10 and settled in Delhi, ON where she later met and married Balasz. They settled in Waterloo Region and were active members of the Hungarian Community. Helen was adventurous, humorous and had a gypsy soul at heart. She was passionate about baking, cooking, gardening and rock collecting from the Rocky Mountains. Her family and dog Tunti were her world.
A special thanks to the Ontario Health at Home-South West, ProResp, her amazing palliative nurses and PSWs, who provided exceptional care as well as her Hospice Volunteer whose weekly visits were treasured.
As was her wish, aquamation has taken place and a private family celebration of life will be arranged at a later date.
