Warriors and Fighting Irish in action in packed hockey weekend

Warriors seeking to stay perfect after mid-week road win over London; host Maroons Friday night

In what promises to be a busy weekend of hockey action, the Stratford Warriors got a jump on things by posting a 3-2 road win over the London Nationals Wednesday night to stay undefeated in early season play.

Colin Slattery scored twice, including the game winner, while Jack McGurn added one for the Warriors. Carter McDougall stopped 19 of 21 shots to pick up the win. Stratford will play host to the Chatham Maroons Friday night, with the puck dropping at 7:30 p.m. at the Allman Arena.

St. Marys returns to action Friday night when they host the Sarnia Legionnaires at 7:30 p.m. at the Pyramid Centre. They hit the road the next night, for a date in Strathroy against the Rockets – puck drop is slated for 7:30 p.m.

The Stratford Fighting Irish finally take to the ice for their regular-season opener when they head west for a clash with the Petrolia Squires. And in Provincial Junior action, Tavistock heads to Woodstock Friday night for a date against the Navy Vets. The Braves will head back home for a Saturday night tilt with their rivals from New Hamburg. Game time against the Firebirds is 7:30 p.m.

Mitchell rounds out the local schedule with a pair of home games: they welcome the Fergus Whalers to town September 28, for a 7:15p.m. start, and then face off with the Kincardine Bulldogs Sunday night. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
