The New Blue Party has unveiled James Montgomery as their candidate for Perth-Wellington in the upcoming election.

A member of the Canadian Armed Forces,  Montgomery has worked with army cadets for the past 13 years in Stratford. He also works at an automotive plant as an instructor who deals with onboarding. Running in the last municipal election, he received 857 votes, and in this provincial cycle he believes he is the best candidate for Perth-Wellington.

“For the past two decades I’ve been serving the community in various capacities,” Montgomery said. “I like talking with people and helping them feel important while helping to solve issues they may have.”

Montgomery says his platform boils down to empowering people.

“I want to make sure that people are able to enjoy their individual freedoms,”Montgomery said. “I want to let people have a choice when it comes to healthcare, or education. I also want to work to empower municipalities, as my philosophy is that everything should be taken care of at the lowest level possible.”

He adds that topics like housing, healthcare, education and affordability should be dealt with by municipalities as something is seriously wrong if they are being dealt with at the provincial or federal level.

The Perth-Wellington riding has been a Conservative stronghold since 2011, but Montgomery says if he is elected he will work collaboratively with all other MPPs.

“Collaboration is important for me, but I am also representing the voters of Perth-Wellington,” Montgomery said. “I also plan to maintain my morals and values as well, so I will never vote for something I don’t agree with.”

The provincial election will take place on February 27.
